Pour les besoins de la Marine, l&rsquo;\u00c9tat ach\u00e8te \u00e0 la municipalit\u00e9 de Lessay et \u00e0 divers particuliers des terrains (243 hectares) constituant l\u2019emprise d\u2019origine de l\u2019a\u00e9rodrome.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Le <strong>4 juin 1927<\/strong>, Charles Lindbergh a att\u00e9rri, \u00e0 bord d&rsquo;un Br\u00e9guet, pour son dernier arr\u00eat en Europe, avant de monter \u00e0 bord d&rsquo;un navire au port de Cherbourg, pour son retour aux \u00c9tats-Unis. Prenant possession du terrain, les Allemands en repouss\u00e8rent les limites \u00e0 l\u2019est et \u00e0 l\u2019ouest, englobant une parcelle de 18 ha que la commune avait lou\u00e9e \u00e0 la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des courses de Lessay.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>En avril 1944<\/strong>, les soldats du 6\u00e8me r\u00e9giment de parachutiste allemands ont \u00e9t\u00e9 charg\u00e9s de d\u00e9fendre l&rsquo;a\u00e9rodrome. Apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 lib\u00e9r\u00e9 par les Am\u00e9ricains en juillet 1944, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.6juin1944.com\/assaut\/9usaaf\/9alg.php?page=a20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lien vers l&rsquo;a\u00e9rodrome (A.20)<\/a> a \u00e9t\u00e9 enti\u00e8rement reconstruit par le 83 \u00e8me bataillon de l&rsquo;aviation, entre le 1er et le 25 ao\u00fbt 1944, qui am\u00e9nagera deux pistes en grilles m\u00e9talliques de 1 500 m et 1 800 m. Il est devenu op\u00e9rationnel le 25 ao\u00fbt avec le \u00ab\u00a0323rd Bomb Group, 455th Bomb Squadron\u00a0\u00bb de bombardement moyen. Des <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aeroclub-lessay.fr\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/B26-Marauder-auderville-goury-22.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-1\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\">B-26 (Maraudeurs)<\/a> ont \u00e9t\u00e9 bas\u00e9s sur l&rsquo;a\u00e9rodrome jusqu&rsquo;au 24 septembre 1944. Apr\u00e8s le d\u00e9part des bombardiers, l&rsquo;a\u00e9rodrome militaire a ferm\u00e9 ses portes le <strong>28 septembre 1944<\/strong>. Les deux bandes d\u2019envol sont \u00a0port\u00e9es \u00e0 1 000 m par intervention des \u00e9quipes de terrassement m\u00e9canique de l\u2019Aviation civile, puis en 1960, la longueur de la piste N-E \/ S-O est port\u00e9e \u00e0 1 250 m, de mani\u00e8re \u00e0 permettre l\u2019atterrissage d&rsquo;a\u00e9ronefs transportant des parachutistes de l\u2019arm\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>1986<\/strong>. Aucun trafic commercial n\u2019appelant un tel d\u00e9ploiement, sa vocation devient \u00a0l&rsquo;aviation l\u00e9g\u00e8re, il verra sa surface r\u00e9duite de 213 ha \u00e0 87 ha. La piste est identique \u00e0 celle de 1944.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong> Depuis 2007, <\/strong>il est la propri\u00e9t\u00e9 du <a href=\"http:\/\/www.manche.fr\/conseil-departemental\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Conseil D\u00e9partemental de la Manche<\/a> qui en assure l&rsquo;entretien.
